What is primate murder?

Primate murder refers to the act of one primate killing another, either of the same or different species. Murders most commonly occur within the same species, when males fight for dominance or resources such as food or mates. However, there have been instances where primates have killed members of other species as well.

Research shows that primates, especially chimpanzees, are capable of planning and executing murders. Chimpanzees have been observed engaging in coordinated attacks where they form alliances to take down rivals or groups of outsiders. They also demonstrate behaviors such as concealing their attacks and disposing of the body to avoid detection by their fellow group members.

Interestingly, some primates have been observed mourning the loss of a member of their group and exhibiting behaviors that suggest they understand the concept of death and the loss of a loved one.
